Adjustable Bases Are for Everyone

If you still picture a hospital bed when you hear “adjustable bed base,” it’s time for a second look.

Today’s adjustable bases are designed for comfort, convenience, and better relaxation, and they can completely change the way you use your bed. Best of all, most models can fit right inside the headboard and footboard you already own, so you don’t have to give up the look of your bedroom.

Why Choose an Adjustable Bed Base?

Every adjustable base allows you to raise your head, and most also let you raise your feet. Those simple adjustments can make a surprisingly big difference.

Like to read or watch TV in bed? Instead of stacking pillows behind your back, you can raise the bed to a comfortable position and stay there.

Prefer sleeping with your head slightly elevated? An adjustable base holds the position throughout the night, so you aren’t constantly rearranging pillows.

Have a partner who snores? Many adjustable bases include an anti-snore position that slightly elevates the head and may help reduce snoring for some sleepers. And yes, you can usually press the button for your partner if they forget. We’ll leave that decision up to you.

Raising the foot of the bed can also feel wonderful after a long day on your feet. It can take pressure off tired legs and give you a comfortable place to relax. Some people are also advised by their healthcare provider to elevate their legs for certain conditions. While an adjustable bed is not a medical device, it gives you the flexibility to find a position that works for you.

And today’s adjustable bases can do much more than simply move up and down.

Features We Love

Voice control.
Some of the newest adjustable bases connect with smart-home devices, allowing you to control your bed through Siri or another compatible voice assistant. No more searching for the remote in the dark.

Massage with a timer.
Turn on the massage feature, set the timer, relax, and let it shut itself off automatically.

Head tilt.
Sometimes called pillow tilt, this feature adjusts the uppermost section of the bed to give your head and neck additional support. If you like to read or watch television in bed, it can make a big difference.

Lumbar support.
Some models include adjustable support beneath your lower back so you can add a little extra lift exactly where you want it. Our S755 Adjustable Base with Lumbar and Head Tilt includes both lumbar support and head tilt.

Zero gravity.
This popular preset raises your head and legs into a position designed to distribute your weight more evenly across the mattress. For many people, it quickly becomes a favorite way to relax.

What Mattresses Work With an Adjustable Base?

More than you might think.

Because we build our mattresses right here at Jordan Mattress & Home, we can offer several comfort levels designed to work with an adjustable base.

If you prefer firmer support, we can make our Orthopedic or Duchess mattress in an adjustable-base-compatible construction.

Want something a little softer on top? Our two-sided Pillow Comfort is another option.

Foam lovers have plenty of choices as well. Our Talalay Latex, 10″ Serene Foam, and 12″ Memory Foam with Serene mattresses all work well with an adjustable base.

One thing to keep in mind: thicker isn’t always better when it comes to an adjustable bed.

A mattress over about 12 inches thick may not flex as easily when the base moves into a sitting or elevated position. All that extra material can make the mattress feel less responsive to the movement of the base.

If you’re not sure whether the mattress you already own will work, just tell us what you have. We’ll give you a straight answer.

A Few Things to Know Before You Buy

Sharing the bed? Consider a split king.
A split king uses two Twin XL bases and two Twin XL mattresses side by side. Each person controls their own side independently.

One of you can sit up and read while the other sleeps completely flat. You can raise your feet while your partner keeps theirs down. It gives each sleeper much more control over their own comfort.

In fact, split king is the adjustable-bed setup we sell most often because it offers the greatest amount of individual comfort and flexibility.

You may need different sheets.
Depending on your setup, you may still be able to use some of the bedding you already own. We also offer split king sheet sets with two Twin XL fitted sheets and one king-size top sheet.

Adjustable bases are heavy.
They contain motors and sturdy steel frames, so moving one is definitely a two-person job.

Fortunately, you don’t have to figure it out alone. We deliver, and we’ll help you get familiar with how your new adjustable base works in your home.

Quick Questions About Adjustable Beds

Will an adjustable base fit my existing bed?

In many cases, yes. Most adjustable bases are designed to fit inside a standard bed frame, and many also include their own legs so they can be used as a freestanding bed.

Many models also offer adjustable leg heights so you can choose a height that works better with your existing furniture.

If you aren’t sure, bring us your bed measurements and we’ll help you figure it out.

Are adjustable beds noisy?

Modern adjustable-base motors are surprisingly quiet. In most cases, making a small adjustment isn’t likely to disturb the person sleeping next to you.

Can two people use different positions?

Yes, with a split king. Each side operates independently.

With a one-piece Queen or King base, the entire mattress moves together.
